terms

How the family works.

These are the terms of being part of frontier.family. They are short because the family is small and run by hand. By applying, accepting a seat, or hosting a room or a city, you agree to them.

What frontier.family is

A private network of people building, running and deciding about frontier technology, meeting in small hosted rooms across Asia, with a concierge who makes introductions between rooms. It is run by Aaron Teng ("we", "us") from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Membership

  • Seats are offered by the host of each city. Applying does not guarantee a seat. We say no often and kindly, and we do not have to give a reason.
  • Founding members pay nothing. If a membership fee is ever introduced, it will apply only to members who join after it is announced, and you will be told in writing first.
  • A seat is personal. It cannot be transferred, lent or sold.
  • You may leave at any time by emailing us. We may end a membership if these terms are broken, or if a member’s conduct harms the room. We will tell you why.

What we ask of members

  • Show up to the rooms you accept. If you cannot, say so early so the seat can go to someone else.
  • Reply to the concierge, even if the answer is no.
  • Be generous with what you know.
  • Nobody pitches at the table. Products are part of the conversation, not a presentation.
  • What is said in a room stays with the people in the room unless the person who said it agrees otherwise. Do not record rooms.
  • Do not use the family to build lists. Contact details you receive through an introduction are for that introduction.

Introductions

Every introduction is asked for first. The concierge will ask both people privately, and will only connect you when both have said yes. You may decline any introduction without explanation. We will never forward your details, and no company, guest or otherwise, ever receives the member list.

Hosting a room

One frontier company per room. The guest company pays for the dinner and co-authors the theme with the host. It receives a seat at the table, a consented follow-up report, and a feature in the family letter. It does not receive the member list, cold introductions, a stage, a logo wall or the right to pitch. Hosting terms for a specific room, including cost, are agreed in writing with the host before the room is confirmed.

Hosting a city

City hosts are appointed by us, seat the rooms in their city, and make the introductions in person. The arrangement between a city host and frontier.family is set out in a separate written agreement.

Your details

How we handle them is set out on the privacy page, which forms part of these terms.

The limits of what we promise

We promise care, not outcomes. We do not guarantee any introduction, deal, investment, hire or result. Members deal with each other as adults and on their own judgement; we are not a party to anything agreed between members or with guest companies. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from membership, a room, or an introduction. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

The name and the site

The frontier.family name, wordmark, consent mark and seating chart are ours. You may say you are a member. You may not present yourself as speaking for the family, or use the marks on your own materials, without asking.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. If a dispute cannot be settled by talking, which we will always try first, the courts of Malaysia have jurisdiction.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, members will be told by email before the change takes effect.
